Grow Youth Giving
A simple way to help young people learn about giving.
Learning about money should include how we give it away: what nonprofits do, how to decide what to support, and why those choices matter. I built Grow Youth Giving because I want more families and communities to feel able to make that teaching part of their lives.
The idea is simple. Set aside an amount that works for you. Give a young person a real choice about which nonprofit it supports. Ask them to learn about the organization and explain their choice. The conversation and the responsibility are part of the learning.
Our family grant-making fund began in 2020. In 2023 I created the site to share the approach and materials others could adapt. It is one example, with room to change the budget, schedule, and structure to suit the people taking part.
You can start small. You do not need to reproduce our program or make it a large undertaking. The aim is to give young people some resources, room to make a decision, and support in thinking it through.
The site includes a program outline, sample submissions, and resources for families and teachers. If this is something you would like to try, those are places to start.
Grow Youth Giving is a resource for sharing an idea. It does not collect donations.
